What Is Pop Up Parade? Good Smile's Affordable Figure Line, Explained

Pop Up Parade is Good Smile Company's affordable, ready-to-display figure line, launched in 2019. If you have browsed anime figures online, you have seen the name on cheaper, non-scale statues that ship fast. This guide explains what Pop Up Parade is, how big the figures are, what they cost, and whether the line is worth it next to Nendoroid, figma, and full scale figures.

Pop Up Parade is a Good Smile Company figure line of pre-painted, static display figures, standing roughly 17–18 cm tall and priced from about ¥3,900, designed to be affordable and to release quickly.

What Is Pop Up Parade?

Pop Up Parade is a line of prize-quality display figures that Good Smile Company built around four ideas: price, size, speed, and collectability. According to Good Smile Company, standard figures stand 17–18 cm tall — slightly larger than a 1/10 scale figure — and launched at ¥3,900, well under what a painted 1/7 scale statue costs.

The line arrived in 2019, with the first figures shipping in June that year. Good Smile Company positions it for newer and "light" collectors: the figures come pre-painted, already assembled, and with a base, so there is nothing to build or pose. You take it out of the box and put it on a shelf.

The other selling point is speed. Good Smile Company aims to ship a Pop Up Parade figure roughly four months after pre-orders close. High-end scale figures often take a year or more between announcement and delivery, so a four-month turnaround is unusually fast for the hobby.

How Pop Up Parade Compares to Nendoroid and figma

Pop Up Parade sits between Good Smile Company's chibi and articulated lines. It is bigger and cheaper to design around than a scale figure, but it trades away poseability.

  • Nendoroid — about 10 cm, chibi proportions, swappable faces and parts, built for posing and play.
  • figma — about 13–15 cm, realistic proportions, many articulated joints, comes with effect and swap parts.
  • Pop Up Parade — about 17–18 cm, realistic proportions, one fixed pose, no articulation.
  • Scale figure — built to a stated ratio such as 1/7, usually larger, more detailed, and far more expensive.

The Size Variants: L, XL, SP, and Swacchao!

Not every Pop Up Parade figure is the standard 17–18 cm. Good Smile Company also releases larger and special versions, which cost more than the base size:

  • L Size — a bigger version of the standard figure, used for characters or poses that need more presence.
  • XL Size — larger still, reserved for showpiece sculpts.
  • SP — special versions with extra detail, alternate poses, or added parts.
  • Swacchao! — a small sitting, deformed-style spin-off sub-line.

Because the base line is affordable and pose-fixed, Pop Up Parade is a good entry point before spending on a premium tier such as a MASTERLISE Ichiban Kuji figure. If that term is new to you, our MASTERLISE explainer covers where the premium prize figures sit.

Is Pop Up Parade Worth It for Collectors?

For most fans, yes — as long as you know what you are buying. You get a good-looking, display-ready statue of a favorite character for a fraction of a scale figure's price, and it arrives quickly. What you give up is articulation and the fine detail of a high-end scale piece. If you want to pose a character, a figma or Nendoroid fits better; if you want a centerpiece, a scale figure does.

Pop Up Parade shines when you want to build a shelf of characters across several series without a scale-figure budget. The fixed pose is not a downside for display — it is why the figure is cheap and fast.
