Pokémon Tales: Sirfetch'd & Pichu Get an Aardman Stop-Motion Series on Disney+ in 2027

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is a new stop-motion series coming to Disney+ worldwide in 2027. The Pokémon Company International and Disney revealed it on August 28, 2026, at a PokémonXP panel, alongside a broader global distribution deal that also brings Pokémon's classic animated series to Disney platforms. Here is what has been confirmed, and what is still unknown.

What Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu Is

Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu is a stop-motion animated series produced by Aardman, the British studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. It is set in the Galar region and follows two unlikely heroes, the noble-but-clumsy Sirfetch'd and the tiny Pichu, as they take on missions to help and protect other Pokémon.

The twist is that their plans rarely go as intended. Across the series, the pair face peril, alliances, rivalries and plenty of laughs, and their friendship grows through each mishap. Notably, the story is told entirely from the Pokémon's point of view rather than a human trainer's, a departure from the long-running TV anime that has always followed a trainer like Ash.

Disney+ will be the exclusive worldwide streaming home, and the series will also air on Disney XD. It launches in 2027. The project was unveiled at a PokémonXP panel on August 28, 2026, tied to the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, where director Tom Parkinson and the Aardman creative team shared early behind-the-scenes footage and a teaser trailer.

The Bigger Picture: Pokémon's Global Disney+ Deal

The new series is one piece of a wider global distribution deal between Disney and The Pokémon Company International. The agreement puts Pokémon programming across Disney+ and Disney XD, giving the franchise a major streaming home beyond its usual outlets.

The deal also brings Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, which follows Ash and Pikachu, to Disney. That show began airing on Disney XD earlier in August 2026 and is now streaming on Disney+ in the U.S. and select international markets. It runs separately from the current Pokémon Horizons TV anime, which continues on its own schedule.

Ayo Davis, President of Disney Kids & Family, framed the partnership this way:

"Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today."

Disney's original animation director Phil Rynda and the Aardman team led the panel presentation.

What It Means for Pokémon Collectors

A high-profile Aardman series usually spins up its own merchandise line, so Pichu- and Sirfetch'd-focused figures, plush and capsule toys are a realistic bet as the show nears its 2027 launch. For now, though, nothing show-specific has been announced, so treat any "Pokémon Tales figure" listing as speculation until Bandai or Pokémon Center confirms it.

Sirfetch'd is a Galar regional evolution of Farfetch'd, and Pichu is a long-running fan favorite, so both already appear across existing Pokémon gashapon and figure lines you can collect today. If you also chase cards, the reveal lands in the same year as the franchise's 30th-anniversary push covered in our Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration guide.
