Ichiban Kuji Gundam 'Universal Century SAGA2': The RX-78-2 Bust and Amuro Figure Collectors Should Know
Bandai Spirits is bringing the classic era of Mobile Suit Gundam back to the prize counter. Ichiban Kuji Mobile Suit Gundam UNIVERSAL CENTURY SAGA2 is set to arrive at Japanese retailers on October 3, 2026, priced at 850 yen per draw, and it is the second entry in a lottery series built entirely around the franchise's Universal Century timeline. For collectors, that means figures of the mobile suits and pilots that started it all in 1979, rather than a modern spin-off.
As with every Ichiban Kuji, there are no blind boxes here: each ticket wins a prize on the spot, and the run ends with a special Last One prize for the final draw. Bandai Spirits has revealed the headline tiers, while several prizes are still being teased ahead of the launch.
What's confirmed in the SAGA2 lineup
The prizes announced so far lean hard into the icons of the original series:
- A Prize — RX-78-2 Gundam "BUSTISAN": a bust-style figure of the original Gundam, roughly 17 cm tall, with the panel-line detailing that line is known for.
- C Prize — Amuro Ray "MASTERLISE": a figure of the series' protagonist pilot standing around 24 cm, on Bandai's premium prize-figure line.
- D Prize — MS Head Magnets: a set of four mobile-suit head magnets (around 5 cm each) covering suits from across the Universal Century.
- Last One Prize — "THE GIGANT NAME": a display piece built around the Mobile Suit Gundam logo, about 25 cm, reserved for the person who takes the final ticket.
Bandai Spirits has noted that the B, E, F, and G prizes, plus a Double Chance campaign item, were still unannounced at the time of the reveal — so the full picture will fill in closer to release. No pricing beyond the per-draw cost has been confirmed for any secondary market, and collectors should treat resale figures as speculative.

Why Universal Century still leads Gundam collecting
Gundam's catalog now spans dozens of timelines, but the Universal Century — the world of Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, and the RX-78-2 — remains the emotional core of the franchise for most long-time fans. A kuji that puts the original Gundam and its pilot front-and-center is aimed squarely at that audience, and the choice of the bust-format BUSTISAN line for the A prize is a smart one: it delivers a display-worthy centerpiece at prize-figure scale rather than a small trophy.
The MASTERLISE Amuro is the other draw. Pilot figures are comparatively rare in the Gundam prize space, which usually favors the machines, so a 24 cm Amuro is the kind of tier collectors will chase even after the kuji sells through in stores. Pair it with the head magnets — a low-tier prize that is genuinely fun to display — and SAGA2 covers both the trophy-hunter and the everyday collector.

How Ichiban Kuji works for collectors outside Japan
Ichiban Kuji is a Japan-only, over-the-counter lottery, which makes the higher tiers hard to get overseas without paying a premium after the fact. Because every draw wins something and the best figures are capped in quantity, the A, C, and Last One prizes are the ones that tend to move internationally once a set ends its retail run. If a specific tier is the goal, buying the individual prize rather than gambling on draws is usually the saner path for collectors abroad.
Building a Gundam shelf — or just chasing the best figures from a current kuji? Akibato ships Japanese collectibles worldwide, and while individual prize lots vary, you can browse the in-stock Ichiban Kuji figures at Akibato to see which series and tiers are available right now. It's the same MASTERLISE-grade prize line that SAGA2 draws from, across franchises fans of classic mecha tend to collect alongside Gundam.
